These are the quick and easy ways to take screenshots on any Windows device:
If you want to take a screenshot of the full screen then many keyboards will include a Print Screen key. There’s a good chance that the key doesn’t have ‘Print Screen’ written out on ifully, so look for one that says “PS,” “PrntScrn” or “PrtSc” if you can’t find it.
When you press this button, you will automatically copy an image of your whole screen. You can paste the screenshot into the Microsoft Paint program by right-clicking and selecting paste or pressing both the Ctrl and V keys at the same time. You are then able to save this image to a folder on your computer.
If you are on live chat or writing an email, you can right click and paste this into the text window to upload and send the image.
To automatically save a screenshot as a file, you can press the Windows and Print Screen key together. You will see the screen dim for a second which means the screenshot has been captured and saved. These files can be found in your Pictures folder.
How to use the Snipping Tool:
Windows also comes with a built in tool for capturing segments of your screen called the Snipping Tool.
You can open this by clicking on the start menu and typing the words ‘Snipping Tool’ into the search boxor by pressing the windows key, Shift key and S at the same time - This feature allows you to click and drag over a portion of your screen to copy it as an image.
When you have opened the program simply click ‘new,’ this will cause your screen to darken. You can then click and drag your mouse over the area you wish to capture.
One you have selected the portion of your screen you wish to capture, the image will be copied to your clipboard.
You can click on the clipboard image to open it for editing or saving as a file. This will also be automatically copied so you are able to use the paste function to add the image into any live chat or email.
Taking a Screenshot using a Mac:
If you are using an Apple device such as an iMac or Macbook, you can take a screenshot of the entire screen by pressing Shift, Command and 3 at the same time.
A thumbnail will appear in the corner of your screen. You can click on this to edit the screenshot of wait for the screenshot to be saved to your desktop.
You can then copy and paste this into an email or live chat window and hit send.
Capturing a portion of the screen:
Apple also has their version of the snipping tool for capturing a portion of the screen.
You can do this by pressing Shift, Command and 4 together.
This will bring up a selection tool for you to drag over the portion of the screen you wish to capture. If you wish to cancel this process, you can press the Esc key.
Once again you will see a thumbnail in the corner of your screen. You can click this to edit your screenshot or find the saved file on your desktop.
Mac users can also download a variety of third-party apps to assist with screenshots.
Alternative Option - Lightshot
You could also download an add-on such as Lightshot, this is free to download and can be added to most browsers to enable you to take a screenshot.
A browser extension is a small software module for customizing a web browser. Browsers typically allow a variety of extensions, including user interface modifications, cookie management, ad blocking, and the custom scripting and styling of web pages.
You can also draw arrows to pinpoint things using Lightshot, as well as mark areas with coloured boxes. If you don’t want to download an add-on to your laptop, you can simply use the “PrtScr” button, this can be found on the top right-hand corner of your keyboard. After pressing PrtScr, you’ll need to open a program such as Paint, or Microsoft word, to enable you to paste the image that you’ve just captured. After opening one of these, if you right-click and then select “Paste” you’ll see that your image has now appeared. You will now be able to edit and crop the image if you wish to or save the image ready to send.
